27.04.2017 — Berenberg hires star fund manager Matthias Born
- Born joins Bernberg as Chief Investment Officer Equities from Allianz Global Investors (AGI)
- Peter Kraus (also from AGI) takes over the small and mid cap team at Berenberg Wealth and Asset Management
Hamburg. With the appointments of Matthias Born and Peter Kraus, Berenberg has managed to win two well-known investment professionals. Both join from Allianz Global Investors and will start working for the pri-vate bank on 1 October. These moves are reflective of the expansion with-in Berenberg’s Wealth and Asset Management division, which was an-nounced at the beginning of this year.

Gebhardt joined Berenberg from Deutsche Asset Management at the be-ginning of this year. “With Matthias Born and Peter Kraus we are delighted to welcome two very renowned investment experts for our growth story, who have a unique expertise in German and European stocks. We will continue to expand our product range with their know-how.”
Matthias Born (42) started his career in 2001 at Allianz Global Investors’ team for European second-tier stocks, where he first managed a fund for German growth stocks as well as portfolios for European second-tier stocks. Since 2007 he has been successfully managing Concentra, a classic among German equity funds. His profound expertise for German stocks is widely recognised. He has had his biggest success since 2009 as co-head of the team for European growth stocks at AGI. He oversaw one of the most successful teams for European equi-ties and was responsible for client deposits totalling a clearly double-digit billion amount. He has been honoured multiple times by fund rating agencies for his outstanding performance in the German and European equity market.
Peter Kraus (41) started as an analyst for European second-tier stocks before he joined AGI in 2006 as a fund manager for European small and mid caps. He made a significant contribution to the great success of AGI’s team for second-tier stocks. He was responsible for the management of various European small and mid cap funds as well as for the acquisition and management of important international institutional mandates.
