Hamburg/Frankfurt. In the funds industry, this day is always awaited with anticipation - the presentation of the Sauren Golden Awards is an important date for German and international fund managers. This year’s Sauren Golden Award for “Comeback of the year” went to Henning Gebhardt, Director Wealth and Asset Management at Berenberg and manager of the new flagship fund “Berenberg Aktien-Strategie Deutschland.” Gebhardt was also awarded two Gold Medals.

“The ratings Gold Medals and the Sauren Golden Awards have become established on the market as coveted marks of special achievements, and are among the highest recognition for fund managers. Our research team, which has been working together for 17 years now, builds on a broad fund of experience from over 6000 discussions with promising fund managers,” notes initiator Eckhard Sauren.

To honour outstanding management performance over and above the Gold Medals, in selected categories Sauren awards a special prize - the Sauren Golden Award. This is an explicit recognition of extraordinary management performance. Recipients were chosen by Sauren Portfolio Management Team experts based on qualitative valuations and achievements in recent years and especially 2017.

In explaining its choice, the jury wrote, “For many years Henning Gebhardt has represented the expertise of the DWS (today: Deutsche Asset Management Investment) in the area of German company shares. During his management tenure from May 2000 until he announced his departure in September 2016, the DWS Share Strategy Germany was one of the best Germany funds. In early 2017 Gebhardt switched to Berenberg as a member of the extended management board and Director Wealth and Asset Management. Since June 2017 he has demonstrated his ability as manager of the ‘Berenberg Aktien-Strategie Deutschland’, with which he is continuing his proven investment style.”

“I am very gratified by this award. It shows that our approach to repositioning Berenberg in funds is highly regarded by the market. Two more successful fund managers, Matthias Born and Peter Kraus, will join us in October and expand our offerings with European and small cap funds,” says Gebhardt.
